Archive for the ‘Best Of Post’ Category

"No, it's not 'Windmill keep on turnin',' it's a song about a riverboat named Proud Mary."

I’d like to say that the popularity of my “Best of ” post from last week inspired me to do another of these. But the reality is, I originally selected too many Adventures for one post. I mean, c’mon, it’s a blog about Little People! How many posts do I really expect people to view in a day? Well….maybe another 20 or so.

I swear, these are good, though. It’s not like they didn’t make the first “Best of” list because they were second-best. Nope, this list includes the most popular posts and many of these are funnier than that last batch. Now…go check ’em out!

.

Little People have got your number – Fans of 80s music loved this one.

Little People feel like chicken tonight, Part 1 – I think this one worked because it channeled the Far Side’s sensibilities about humor.

Little People experience symmetrical block stacking – People love quoting Ghostbusters, and I think this one was the favorite of those posts.

imageLittle People costumes – I love this one because a gag like this would never have occurred to me if Ben hadn’t put those arms on the donkey. People dug it, too.

.

.

Little People are the tyranny of evil men – inspired by my wife, people loved this Pulp Fiction-inspired scene. I think the title makes it one of those must-read ones.

Little People meet Imaginext – The popularity of this one seemed more about its artistic value than humor.

Little People chess – I think this one was particularly inspired and it seemed to work.

Little People natural disaster! – Parents loved this because they’ve witnessed similar things. Many, many times.

image

Little People ruin the surprise – This one is a close second in terms of getting the most laughs. Delightfully ridiculous.

.

.

A Little People trust building exercise – This was one people liked because of the “Dad’s note” that completed the gag.

Ben edits a Little People Adventure – If there was a photo that captured the spirit of the blog, it’s this one. Holy cuteness.

Love on the Little People range – I think people found the Brokeback Mountain reference an unexpected, yet funny, surprise.

Embarrassed Little People – Our take on the classic.

Little People perform Shakespeare, Pt I – This was one of the first to get attention from people I didn’t know. Everyone loves Romeo and Juliet.

Little People Noah rips off Belinda Carlisle – I can only imagine what people expected when the title compelled them to open this one.

Little People celebrate St. Patrick’s Day, Pt X – This was the most popular of the St. Patrick’s Day series. People like vomit humor.

imageLittle People in Casablanca – This was an 11-part series that spawned from a number of seemingly unrelated photos without captions.

.

.

.

The Little People Blair Witch – Surprisingly, this seemed to capture the creepiness of the movie.

The French prepare for Monty Python keh-nig-its – People love Monty Python. And the title makes you want to open it.

Little People dating – People love dirty jokes. This is one of the most popular posts and there’s nothing special about the title. It’s probably people accidentally finding the post when looking for small person love.

Little People do “Hair” – We have some fans of musicals. This is the second-most viewed post.

image

Swearing with Little People – You can bet your ascot that people like to read posts about swearing. And I made you guess what those words were! Post with the most visits.

.

.

Thanks again for all the support!

"How do you feel about bad puns, movie references, and homophone jokes?"

There’s no way I would have kept doing this blog for a year if people weren’t reading it regularly. And with over 9,000 visitors and 600+ posts, it means we’re averaging better than 15 views for every photo gag! That blows me away, considering this a photo blog about a toddler (and sometimes his dad) playing with toys.

.

.

Now, there are obviously some posts that are better, funnier, or smarter than others. And for new subscribers or visitors, 600 posts is a lot of go through to find the gems. So for you (and those long-time fans who want to look back and remember a good laugh), this post is a great jumping off point. These are the posts that people shared on Facebook or Twitter, have high page views, or compelled people to tell me in person that it made them laugh.

Thank you visitors, thank you subscribers, and thank you friends and family. I hope you’ve been having as much fun as we have.

–Mike and Ben

.

Trouble on the Little People farm – This was the one that started it all. Originally posted in my Facebook album, it was one that made people – especially my wife – suggest that I do an actual blog. Still one of the most popular and one of my faves.

.

Noah adjusts to life after the Little People ark – This is the second post. People seemed to like the subtly of this Far Side-esque photo.

It was one of the Little People, in the Hallway, with the Gingerbread Cookie – People seemed to love the eyewitness panda.

Little People prairie folk had children for all sorts of jobs – I never know if the ridiculous thoughts in my head will resonate with readers. This one did.

A Little People appetizer? – People believed humor > irreverence.

.

No room in the inn for Little People – People generally react stronger to spontaneous humor over staged gags, which is why this is one of the few ones I created alone that people remember. And photos of toddler play is cuter than a grown-up playing with toys.

.

Impatience on the Little People ark – The classics never get old.

Little People of the Lost Ark, Pt I – One of the many movie-related postings, this one seemed to really capture the famous scene from Raiders of the Lost Ark.

Little People in Narnia, Pt I – Another famous scene that seemed to resonate with readers

Little People haberdashery – People apparently love the word “haberdashery”

Silence of the Little People, Pt II – Nothing like a good creepy scene done with toys.

image

old Little People queens – One of those posts that people enjoyed, but made them wonder about the inner workings of my brain. Not the first time. Not the last. Sigh.

.

.

Little People are stuck in the middle with you – I expect this one caught people by surprise–even long-time readers.

Hungry Little People creature – Parents seemed to dig this one. It lets your imagination work.

Little People love their goldfish, their crayons, too – People seem to like loss-of-innocence humor

Little People Goodfellas – People liked the take on the famous scene from Goodfellas.

image

Rough Little People childhood – I think people liked this one because they could totally see me having this conversation with my mother.

.

.

.

Little People dissidents – We don’t go political or topical very often, but people seemed to like this one.

Little People play Calvinball – People love Calvin & Hobbes.

Little People Joker uses the ‘Lita Ford defense’ – Ridiculous caption + ridiculous 80s song = comedy gold.

Little People adventure flashback #2 – People love nostalgia. And nothing says nostalgia like toys from your childhood. That you could choke on.

Little People camouflage – One of the great ludicrous ones.

image

How do you scare a Little People elephant? – More people have told me this made them laugh than any other. We’ll dub this one the funniest “Little People Adventure”.

For now.
